DLI Executive Academy Graduates 48 Leaders | DRA Invests $1.2 Million in Guthrie, KY. to Help Create 125 New Jobs | Chairman Caldwell Speaks to Delta Regional Forum in Clarksdale, MS

Delta Leadership Institute Executive Academy Graduates 48 Leaders

Congratulations to the 48 fellows who graduated from the Delta Leadership Institute (DLI) Executive Academy. The fellows will return to their communities equipped with the tools necessary to support job creation and economic development efforts in their home states.

The graduates completed a year-long training program that promotes collaboration among the public, private and non-profit sectors across the region served by DRA. The six training sessions included visits to Potosi, MO, Memphis, TN, Clarksdale, MS, New Orleans, LA, Selma, AL, Jonesboro, AR, Paducah, KY, and southern Illinois.

Each session allowed the DLI fellows to meet with local community leaders and learn more about the important initiatives taking place to help them gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in the region. The graduates heard from local, regional and national experts on topics such as infrastructure and transportation, small business and entrepreneurship, workforce training, and public health, among others.

The program encourages graduates to think regionally and promote collaboration across all eight DRA states in moving forward on economic development efforts. The DLI graduates now will become members of the Delta Leadership Network, which includes more than 500 community leaders who collaborate and share resources to promote job growth and community development across the Delta.

DRA Invests $1.2 Million in Guthrie, KY. to Help Create 125 New Jobs

An automotive manufacturing plant in Guthrie, KY., will receive a $1.2 million investment to support an expansion that will create 125 new jobs. DRA’s investment through the Community Infrastructure Fund (CIF) will improve infrastructure at the 153-acre site in Todd County.

The CIF investment will support construction of sewer and electrical infrastructure for the facility, which will produce light-weight aluminum for the auto industry. The plant, projected to open in 2020, is a $300 million economic development project.

DRA’s investment is part of a multi-phase development that will advance manufacturing capabilities across North America. The facility could add another 300 jobs and attract investments of up to $600 million based on forecasted growth. The Guthrie facility will produce alloys, treatments and finishes that will allow automakers to create more fuel efficient cars and trucks.

Chairman Caldwell Speaks to Delta Regional Forum in Clarksdale, MS.

DRA Chairman Chris Caldwell joined Mississippi state Rep. Orlando Paden in a forum to discuss the “state of the Delta,” with a focus on health and economic development issues, and priorities for the coming years.

The panel discussion in Clarksdale at Coahoma County Higher Education Center opened the Delta Regional Forum, a two-day session that focused on population health, economic development and entrepreneurial problem solving in the Delta region.

The forum was sponsored by the Delta Directions Consortium, an interdisciplinary group that includes the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi, Mississippi State Social Science Research Center, Harvard School of Public Health, Harvard Law School, University of Mississippi Center for Population Studies and the Winokur Family Foundation.

In his remarks, Caldwell focused on DRA’s efforts to enhance economic development and job creation through public-private partnerships that include key stakeholders such as governors, congressional delegations, private industry and local leaders in the eight-state region the agency serves.

DRA’s economic development efforts focus on making key investments primarily in four areas: basic public infrastructure, transportation infrastructure, workforce development and business development.
