Be Pro Be Proud mobile unit takes off across Arkansas to promote trade professions

The DRA joined Governor Asa Hutchinson and the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and the Associated Industries of Arkansas (ASCC/AIA) to announce the launch of a new initiative, “Be Pro Be Proud,” to bring a new generation of pride, progress and professionals to Arkansas’s skilled workforce with a mobile unit that provides workshops to Arkansans, including Delta residents, on the importance of trade professions and acquiring skills to compete for these jobs.

The initiative targets many key audiences including high school and nontraditional students, current skilled professionals, legislators, parents, teachers, career coaches and employers to dispel the myths about skilled trade professions, showcase current skilled professionals’ true vocational pride, highlight the many career opportunities available within these trades and provide necessary resources and training to those interested. The mobile unit will be making its way to Delta communities in the coming months.

Delta Entrepreneurship Network announces schedule for NOEW 2016

In its second year of participating in New Orleans Entrepreneur Week, the DEN will host four days of programming with 33 DEN fellows that will advance the regional conversation about strengthening the Delta’s entrepreneurial ecosystem. The schedule includes a roundtable with Historically Black Colleges and Universities about optimizing minority entrepreneurs' participation in the ecosystem, a round robin session that connects DEN fellows with investors, and a conversation with entrepreneurship support organizations about strategies to strengthen the Delta's entrepreneurship ecosystem.

The highlight of the week is the Delta Entrepreneur Showcase on Thursday, March 17, at which each of the DEN entrepreneur fellows will pitch their businesses and try to convince participants from the public to vote for their idea. Judges will choose three entrepreneurs to pitch for three minutes on stage to regional investors at Manning's Courtyard. Keep up with the NOEW activities using hashtags #deltaentrepreneur and #NOEW2016.

If you're in the area and interested in participating in NOEW 2016, email Katie Milligan for more information.

GRAMMY Museum Mississippi opens its doors to music lovers around the world

GRAMMY Museum Mississippi officially opened its doors during a weekend full of events and celebrations of music in the Delta and the opening of the first GRAMMY museum outside of Los Angeles, CA. The museum in Cleveland, MS, is an important boost to tourism in the Delta and dramatically displays the rich cultural heritage that the Delta region provides to the country and world. This project is a great example of the investments DRA is making to boost tourism as an economic development strategy for Delta communities.

The Museum will house interactive exhibits dedicated to its mission of providing unique learning opportunities based on the enduring legacies of all forms of music, the entire creative and technological processes of recording, and the history of the GRAMMY Awards with a focus on the continuing achievements of Mississippians. It will also provide educational programs for students of all ages.
