Programs to Advance the Delta
Timeline and Process
- Applicants must submit the original J-1 Visa Waiver application with two copies to the Delta Regional Authority.
- The application process start date will be the day that DRA receives the application. DRA will notify the appropriate state agency in writing that it has received a J-1 Visa Waiver Application for a placement in their respective state, inform the agency of the process start date, and provide pertinent information in regard to the placement (i.e. Physician’s Name, Type of Practice, and Location of Placement). The state agency should notify the DRA of any compelling reason as to why the placement should not be made. DRA will begin its review of the application and will notify the State of any issues found in the application in writing, by email, or fax. States will also notify DRA of any issues in writing, by email, or fax.
- The State agency will have 45 calendar days from the process start date to issue any comment on the placement. If DRA does not receive comment within the required 45 days, DRA will proceed to complete the application review process.
- DRA will make a recommendation on the J-1 Visa Waiver application within 60 days of the receipt of a complete application. If approved, the DRA will forward the application to the U.S. Department of State. The time period may be extended to allow for additional investigation.
- Once the physician begins work, the DRA will forward copies of the completed “Physician Employment Verification Form” and other documentation used to verify status to the state agency.
