Shad Burner is the Southeast Regional Manager for the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED). Shad brings a mix of private and public sector experience to the agency and is passionate about economic development in southeast Missouri, where he was born and raised.
In his current role, Shad has managed dozens of projects representing thousands of new jobs, hundreds of millions in private investment, and millions in grant dollars for community infrastructure. He has also taken on many statewide responsibilities such as Opportunity Zone lead for DED, liaison to the Economic Development Administration, and serving on Missouri’s leadership team for vaccine rollout.
Prior to joining DED, Shad served as the Director of Alumni Services at Southeast Missouri State University, the VP of Business Development at the Cape Girardeau Area Chamber of Commerce, and most recently as VP of Business Development and investor at carGO, a ride-share and food delivery startup.
Shad is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD), a 2020 Delta Leadership Institute graduate, and a recent graduate of Missouri Leadership Academy. He serves on the board of the Missouri Economic Development Council and also as a member of the Missouri Statewide Innovation and Entrepreneurship Steering Committee. Shad holds a master’s in Higher Education Administration and a bachelor’s in Mass Communication from Southeast Missouri State University.
Shad and his wife, Layne, live in Cape Girardeau with their two children, Kaydence and Lennon.
