DRA Chairman Visits with Kentucky Congressman to Discuss Asian Carp Issue | Brian Kelsey of Tennessee Joins DRA Board | Aury Kangelos Joins DRA as Program Manager

DRA Chairman Chris Caldwell Meets Congressman to Discuss Asian Carp Issue

Chairman Chris Caldwell  joined U.S. Rep. James Comer of Kentucky (R-01) for a meeting in Eddyville, KY., to discuss the problems presented by Asian Carp in Western Kentucky.

Comer invited Caldwell to join a House Oversight and Government Reform Field Briefing to explore the federal, state and local government efforts to control and eradicate Asian Carp from waterways. More than 400 area residents attended the meeting, which focused on how the invasive species is displacing game fish and injuring boaters.

Asian Carp is destroying local ecosystems and harming communities that rely on Delta waterways for fishing, tourism and recreation. The briefing also included expert testimony from officials with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services and the U.S. Geological Survey, two agencies at the center of federal efforts to battle the Carp problem.

Those attending contributed ideas to reduce Asian Carp in Kentucky’s waterways, including better deterrents and barrier that would deploy new technology to remove the carp.
