Delta Regional Authority Announces Inaugural Delta Summit in New OrleansJuly 29, 2021
Delta Summit 2021 will bring together community leaders and subject matter experts in economic development, rural revitalization, and community resiliency to strategically move the DRA region forward.
NEW ORLEANS, LA – The Delta Regional Authority (DRA) announced today the inaugural Delta Summit will be held in New Orleans, LA from December 7-9, 2021. Delta Summit 2021 is designed to bring together community leaders and subject matter experts from across the eight-state DRA region to discuss and learn more about the region’s opportunities for economic development, rural revitalization, and community resiliency.
“The inaugural Delta Summit will bridge the Delta’s past with our hope for its future, celebrating DRA’s 20 years of work strengthening regional economic development while also recognizing present challenges and opportunities to develop strategies that address community resiliency,” said DRA Spokeswoman Shawna Blair. “The Delta Regional Authority is excited to convene public, private, and nonprofit sector leaders to exchange ideas and learn from practitioners in the field and use these best practices to move their own communities forward.”
Delta Summit 2021 will kick-off with welcoming remarks from former DRA States Co-Chair and Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards, and will feature keynote speakers including:
- James Carville, political icon
- Sarah Smarsh, journalist and author of Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth
- Lt. General Russel Honoré, USA (Ret.), Commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, Leadership, Safety & Global Preparedness Authority and Leader of U.S. Capitol Complex Security Review
“I am excited to kick off the Delta Summit 2021 this December, welcoming the Delta Regional Authority and conference attendees to New Orleans,” said Governor John Bel Edwards. “It has never been more vital for the Delta region to collaborate efforts and resources to overcome the generational challenges in the region which have been intensified due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The three-day summit will feature engaging sessions and workshops, field experiences, and peer networking opportunities to share ideas, best practices, and strategies to move the region forward. Concurrent session tracts will feature specialized subject matter including public infrastructure and transportation, workforce development and education, business development and entrepreneurship, community revitalization, health, and DRA programs and initiatives.

DRA will continue to adhere to the CDC’s public health guidance and will consider all state and local recommendations in New Orleans, Louisiana. Due to evolving public health circumstances, the Delta Summit schedule is tentative and subject to change based on expected attendance, capacity considerations, and public health protocols at the time of the event.
