Delta Regional Authority, DoD to Meet with Community Partners for Upcoming Medical Mission

September 14, 2021

Hopkinsville awarded FY 2022 Innovative Readiness Training medical mission by U.S. Department of Defense.

HOPKINSVILLE, KY – Delta Regional Authority (DRA) officials today met with U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) officials and community partners for a pre-site visit on behalf of the recently awarded Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) medical mission. The West Kentucky Mission was awarded by DoD last month and will occur in Hopkinsville in Summer 2022. DRA partners with DoD and the U.S. Military’s reserve forces to bring medical, dental, and optical care to Delta residents in need of quality healthcare at no cost to the patients.

“Hopkinsville’s location, facilities, and community support all contribute to this town being an ideal location for our IRT medical mission next summer,” said DRA Spokesperson Shawna Blair. “DRA appreciates the efforts of our military partners and looks forward to working with Hopkinsville residents, businesses, and elected officials to build excitement for next summer’s IRT medical mission and the medical care our nation’s servicemembers will bring to the area.”

IRT is a DoD military training opportunity that delivers joint training opportunities to increase deployment readiness while simultaneously providing key healthcare services with lasting benefits for Delta communities. By utilizing their extensive resources, the military is able to meet some of the region’s most urgent healthcare needs. Among the services provided during IRT missions are basic medical and wellness exams, vision exams and single lens glasses, and dental exams and extractions.

Military personnel will offer vision, dental, and basic medical services to the public at no cost to patients. There are no income or residency requirements to receive treatment, and providers will treat patients ages three and older. Patients will be treated on a first-come, first-served basis.
