$1.5 million funding opportunity to support industry-driven workforce development initiatives

CLARKSDALE, MS – The Delta Regional Authority (DRA) today opened the application cycle for the 2021 Delta Workforce Grant Program (DWP). The program invests federal resources across the Mississippi River Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions particularly hard hit by industrial downsizing, business closures, and job losses as a result of the public health and economic crises.

“The Delta Workforce Grant Program invests in workforce development projects that support job placement, career development, and strategic investments in workforce systems to strengthen local and regional economies,” said DRA Spokeswoman Shawna Blair. “DRA prioritizes projects that develop cross-sector partnerships, leverage new or existing resources, and address the skills gap experienced by employers, workers, and job seekers in the Delta so that they may continue to live and thrive in the region.”

DWP supports projects and initiatives that create a more vibrant economic future for the Delta by expanding job training and re-employment opportunities, aligning workforce and economic development strategies, creating sustainable talent pipelines, establishing or enhancing local and regionally significant public-private partnerships, and supporting enhanced workforce productivity through investments in innovative programming.

Under the program’s Request for Proposals, DRA makes available $1.5 million in grants ranging from $50,000-$200,000 to address the employment and training needs of the local and regional workforce, created in collaboration with community partners and aligned with existing economic and workforce development plans and strategies. Applications must provide workforce training and education to individuals residing in the DRA region and include at least one employer partner seeking to hire more skilled workers in a high-demand industry sector.

To complement this funding opportunity, DRA will offer post-award technical assistance to grantees to ensure projects are effectively and sustainably implemented.

To submit a grant application, visit the Delta Workforce Grant Program portal at All applications must be submitted in the grant portal by October 27, 2021. Additional information about DWP, including important dates and resources, is available at
