November 01, 2021

CLARKSDALE, MS – Delta Regional Authority (DRA), in partnership with the Health Resources & Services Administration’s (HRSA) Federal Office of Rural Health Policy, today announced Louisiana Tech University was awarded a $600,000 grant through the Delta Region Rural Health Workforce Training Program. A Notice of Funding Opportunity for FY 2022 is now open with an estimated $1.4 million total program funding to be awarded.

“What DRA has found in working with rural hospitals throughout the Delta is that strong administrative support is essential to securing the viability of rural healthcare systems,” said DRA Spokeswoman Shawna Blair. “The Delta Regional Rural Health Workforce Training Program addresses this ongoing need by promoting and investing in the development of strategic networks to support the education and training of future and current health administration professionals in the rural counties and parishes of the Delta and Alabama Black Belt.”

Louisiana Tech University, along with academic partner Bossier Parish Community College, educational technology partner BetaFlix, Inc., and rural healthcare partners North Louisiana Medical Center/Allegiance Healthcare Management and Jackson Parish Hospital have come together as strategic network partners.  The network will create a sustainable pipeline of trained rural health professionals and assist in retaining current healthcare staff in nine rural parishes with opportunities for training and education in critical positions.

A Notice for Funding Opportunity for FY 2022 Delta Region Rural Health Workforce Training funds is now available to view through grants.gov. An estimated $1.4 million will be made available, and applications are due January 25, 2022. HRSA has scheduled a technical assistance webinar at 2:00PM ET on Wednesday, November 10, 2021 for those interested in applying.

The Delta Region Rural Health Workforce Training Program supports education and training to aid development of strategic workforce training for critical health administrative support occupations. The program funds specialized training such as medical coding and billing, clinical documentation, information management, and claims processing.
