LOWER MISSISSIPPI RIVER DELTA REGION – The Delta Regional Authority (DRA) today recognized the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and the U.S. Military’s reserve forces for providing nearly $900,000 in estimated value of services during the Delta Wellness Mission 2021.  The Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program medical mission brought approximately 270 servicemembers to Lake Village, AR; Greenville, MS; and Lake Providence, LA from July 9-17, 2021 and provided over 13,000 medical, dental, and optical care procedures at no cost to the 2,585 patients served.

“The Delta Regional Authority applauds the IRT program for the invaluable health services they provided to Delta residents,”  said DRA Spokeswoman Shawna Blair.  “Not only did the Delta Wellness Mission provide nearly $900,000 in estimated value of services to DRA communities at no cost to the patients treated, but also it allowed for our military personnel to complete over 36,000 military training hours.  Partnering with DoD to bring IRT programs to Delta communities is yet another way that DRA works to help create jobs, build communities, and improve the lives of Delta residents, and DRA is incredibly grateful for our servicemembers who aided us in this mission.”

The Delta Wellness Mission 2021 is a Innovative Readiness Training (IRT) program, a DoD military training opportunity that delivers joint training opportunities to increase deployment readiness while simultaneously providing key healthcare services with lasting benefits for Delta communities.  By utilizing their extensive resources, the military is able to meet some of the region’s most urgent healthcare needs.  Among the services provided during IRT missions are basic medical and wellness exams, vision exams and single lens glasses, and dental exams and extractions.  Military personnel offered vision, dental, and basic medical services to the public at no cost to patients.
