New Dates Announced for Inaugural Delta Summit

Delta Summit 2022 will take place March 29-31, 2022 in New Orleans.

CLARKSDALE, MS – Delta Regional Authority (DRA) today announced the inaugural Delta Summit will take place March 29-31, 2022 in New Orleans, LA.  Delta Summit 2022 is designed to bring together community leaders and subject matter experts from across the eight-state DRA region to discuss and learn more about the region’s opportunities for economic development, rural revitalization, and community resiliency. 

“The COVID-19 pandemic has presented the DRA region with new challenges to overcome, but time and time again, Delta residents have shown strength and resiliency while facing adversity,” said DRA Alternate Federal Co-Chairwoman Leslie Durham.  “DRA believes that working together to exchange ideas and think strategically will ultimately help create change to strengthen the region’s long term economic viability. The Delta Summit is an opportunity to convene and work toward a better future in the Delta, and I am thrilled to host our inaugural Summit in my home state of Louisiana.” 

Delta Summit 2022 will feature keynote speakers including:

  • James Carville, political icon
  • Sarah Smarsh, journalist and author of Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth
  • Lt. General Russel Honoré, USA (Ret.), Commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, Leadership, Safety & Global Preparedness Authority and Leader of U.S. Capitol Complex Security Review

The three-day summit will feature engaging sessions and workshops, field experiences, and peer networking opportunities to share ideas, best practices, and strategies to move the region forward. Concurrent session tracks will feature subject matter experts with substantial experience in public infrastructure and transportation, workforce development and education, business development and entrepreneurship, community revitalization, and health. DRA staff will also facilitate sessions about DRA programs and initiatives to provide attendees with a better understanding of the resources and tools DRA has to offer to their communities.

For individuals who registered for the Delta Summit 2021, those registrations will be honored at Delta Summit 2022. All lodging booked through DRA’s room block has been canceled, and DRA will release the new booking information through its website once available. DRA will continue to adhere to the CDC’s public health guidance and will consider all state and local recommendations in New Orleans, Louisiana. Due to evolving public health circumstances, the Delta Summit schedule is tentative and subject to change based on expected attendance, capacity considerations, and public health protocols at the time of the event.
