Dr. Corey Wiggins
Dr. Corey Wiggins currently serves as the federal co-chairman for the Delta Regional Authority (DRA), a federal regional commission promoting and encouraging the economic development of the lower Mississippi River and Alabama Black Belt regions. He was nominated by President Joseph R. Biden to serve as the fourth federal co-chairman for the DRA on Dec. 15, 2021, and was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate on March 11, 2022.
Prior to joining DRA, Wiggins served as the executive director of the Mississippi State Conference NAACP. He also served as the senior vice president of policy and evaluation at Hope Enterprise Corporation, where he also held the position of executive director of the Mississippi Economic Policy Center and executive director of the Hope Policy Institute. Throughout his career, Wiggins has focused on strengthening communities, building assets, and improving lives in economically distressed areas of the Mid-South.
A native of Hazlehurst, Mississippi, Wiggins is a graduate of Alcorn State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in biology, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where he earned a Master of Science in public health and a Doctor of Philosophy in health promotion. He also holds a certificate of nonprofit leadership from Boston College and has completed fellowships with the Kaiser Family Foundation, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Wiggins is married to wife Dr. Shenekia Wiggins with whom he has three sons: Corey James, Carson George and Colin Harold.
